What can we do?


We provide different levels of service:

  • A listening ear
  • Help with working out a budget
  • Prioritising debts
  • Producing a financial statement and a realistic budget
  • Helping to maximise your income by checking benefits
  • Negotiating with creditors to agree to the budget and to stop interest and charges
  • If necessary, preparing you, supporting you and guiding you at court

Severe debt

In some cases debts are so large that repayment terms are unreasonable. If so, different options are explored according to individual circumstances. Wotton Debt Advice centre may seek to negotiate an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA). This is a legally binding agreement whereby creditors accept affordable repayments over five years as a full and final settlement of the debts. People on low incomes are normally excluded from IVA's due to the fees involved.

Sometimes bankruptcy may be the best way forward and if so, we can give practical advice and assistance.
